Is this a smart idea?

It's so easy to romanticize making your own money and being your own boss. A huge chunk of the population dreams of quitting their job to become an entrepreneur, where they only have to answer to themselves, but they don't understand how much work that actually takes. If you think you're going to do less work as an entrepreneur than you would at a regular desk job, I've got a bridge to sell you. It's not a pursuit that an otherwise lazy person should consider, because you have to figure out all of the business questions that your boss figured out at your old job. The aesthetic and idea of working for yourself are much more glamorous than the practical reality.

One of the worst things you can do is quit your stable job to chase internet fame. The internet is a very fickle place, and just because you have one viral TikTok does not mean that you can actually make a solid income from making videos. There is so much competition on the internet: anyone can watch anything at any time, and there are billions of options for them to pick from. 

The dude in this story wants to quit his incredibly cushy job to pursue Roblox full-time, all because he got 410K visits to his game in a month and a half. If you're an internet professional, you know that 410K views in over a month is nowhere near enough to sustain an income, even for a single childless person.

Most of the popular Roblox games measure their visits in the billions and tens of billions of visits and even then, anecdotally, it's not always easy to be profitable outside of the Top 20. Platform cuts are high,

  • competition is high, kids are fickle. Tens of millions, literally 100x what you have now, would be enough to cover a full time salary, maybe, but not put you back up to 150k Euro. Honestly, just do it as a side hustle until you're pretty sure you can sustain a living doing it.

  • Capable_Piano832 Is it a smart idea? No. Is it a valid idea? Sure. You're at the best age to be taking risks and that life phase won't last forever. Depending on your industry, returning to a $150k/yr job after a year's experiment might be quite simple. Important to ask yourself if you're genuinely really into Roblox development though or just bored in your life and looking to make ANY change.
